As chairman of the Baltic Sea Commission, my view is clearly that the Baltic Seas and our immediate area can only be improved by international co-operation. The Baltic Sea Commissions task is to protect the environmental aspects, possibilities of tourism, shipping and also the competiveness in the area. The gas line between Russia and Germany will be discussed this autumn. Also issues related to the EU directives for maritime environment is part of the commission’s competence area. All country’s around the Baltic Sea have a common responsibility for the seas well being. Co-operation needs to be found, it does not help to just blame the guilty. We can learn from each other and realize our own responsibility for the future.
It is important to get attitude upbringing for both younger as it is for older people. If you have been taught to turn off the lights when leaving a room, turn off the water when shampooing your hair or brushing your teeth, learned not to throw garbage on the street – then you are participating in not wearing out or damaging the enviroment unnecessarily. It just takes a little from us all but helps a lot to the environment.
I do not demand that nuclear reactors should be banned and closed but I do not want to attribute towards increasing need of nuclear reactors.
The Nordic community is very important to me. I have had the advantage since yearly years to attend different Nordic events and I now work with Föreningen Norden to give other youths the same opportunity as I had. Even if we within the Nordic countries have so much in common we do have a lot of different solutions and we can all learn from each other. I actively create contact with other Nordic influencers and inhabitants so I can be able in other international work to rely on the Nordic models.
Finland’s responsibility for the development work shall not be forgotten. Generally speaking we have it well in Finland and we shall carry our responsibility. The support shall be set as 0, 7 % of the GNP.
