I do not for a second believe you have to be over 65 years old and retired to be able to be trustworthy in questions concerning senior citizens.
The experience of life and the work input that seniors are standing for I have full respect for and I cherish it highly. My view is that all people shall be treated equally in the society. It is not correct that e.g. taxation is tighter for seniors than for wage earners. The model presented by the Taxpayers association of Finland I find acceptable. The model suggests a progressive government pension deductibility that makes the taxation scales equal. The deduction would be max 500 euros p.a. The cost for the government would be around 160 million euros which should be acceptable. This system would benefit those whose yearly pension is between 14 000 and 35 000 euros. The average pension is around 18 500 euros p.a.
I would like to point out one thing regarding the heading. Many families have moved for one reason or another to another town so the traditional relationship between generations has been steered. Grandparents do not often see their grandchildren. At the same time schools lacks resources. As a solution we now have grandparents visiting and helping out in schools. The children can enjoy another adult contact while learning to communicate over the generation limit. The seniors find them useful and receive a new challenge in their daily life. The teachers have an extra resource in the room. A situation based on voluntarily work and has positive consequences for everybody involved.
Decreased food VAT has a positive impact on especially lower wage earners, families with children and seniors.
